This website is focused on the building of an affordable solar house that is unique, comfortable, long lasting and is resistant to  earthquakes, fires, tornados, hurricanes and other man or natural disasters. This is all accomplished by the round, concrete design of the house. (Read “why build round”) Yet costs are comparable to the "stick" constructed homes. Concrete is a very  affordable building material, especially considering it's strength, thermal mass properties and  longevity. All or most of it’s electrical and heating needs will be from the sun. By starting from the ground up, the heating system, electrical, refrigeration and water needs  were all designed for minimal energy consumption and loss. SOLAR CAN BE AFFORDABLE. The output of individual photovoltaic panels has quadrupled in the last decade and are all available online to the public at discount prices. Energy saving light bulbs, high efficiency heating systems, smart water systems and low consumption refrigeration will cut down on the use of fossil fuels, reduce pollution and give you energy independence. Detailed graphs showing daily KW usage as well as temperatures in and outside, humidity.

The round design of this house opened up many doors. Energy conservation primarily since weather goes around it rather than pushing  constantly to a flat surface. Strength! Long lasting concrete construction. Vital  orientation to the sun on any lot.  Only the round design can support the highly insulated, poured in place concrete roof with the large over hangs. These overhangs are  designed to let the winter sun in and block the summer sun. The concrete roof ensures safety from all elements, natural or man.  The walls are constructed using ICF's and are 10" of steel reinforced concrete and the floors are 4.5" steel reinforced concrete with radiant tubing.

The two stories and loft add up to 2500 sq ft.

Visit the photo gallery  which shows the whole process from start to present and the visitors gallery of family and friends.

Photos of the construction of the round house will be posted as we move along. Check out the PDF files of the actual drawings of the round concrete house. Study plans will be  available for anyone interested in building.
